EARLY EVENTS IN ACUTE HEPATITIS C VIRUS (HCV) INFECTION
WITH THE AIM TO IDENTIFY NEW BIOMARKERS

HepaCute (Grant Agreement n°260844) is a European Research Network (Collaborative Project) supported by the European Commission under the Health Cooperation Work Programme of the 7th Framework Programme for the Research and Technological Development.

Strategy

Within HepaCute, the most innovative technologies such as genome wide association studies, transcriptomics, proteomics, and ultra-deep sequencing will be employed to better understand the early events in acute Hepatitis C and to translate these results into readily practicable diagnostic tools to predict spontaneous viral clearance.

Mosaiques GmbH will perform the first proteomics analysis in patients with acute hepatitis C, which has the potential to identify a marker for spontaneous viral clearance.

The HepaCute partners have access to the genetic information from hundreds of resolved cases of acute hepatitis C and biological samples as well. More patients’ data will be continuously added from Egypt, Morocco and European Partnering Countries.

By comparing the genetic profiles and their related clinical outcome, it will be possible to gain new insights and new knowledge in the management of acute hepatitis C infection. Furthermore HepaCute will work actively towards a coordination of the similar EU-funded programs (such as the SPHINX project) with those funded by the Mediterranean Partner Countries (e.g. funded under the Egyptian STDF programme).

The exchange of students between partners and a comprehensive training programme will contribute to disseminating good clinical practices.
